Whilst The Graduate Junction’s main focus is to provide global inter-disciplinary academic networking opportunities for Masters, Doctoral and Postdoctoral, we also aim to provide central listings of information relevant to the graduate research community.

The Graduate Junction provides institutions and organisations with the opportunity to:

  • Promote upcoming conferences and academic events to an international audience.
  • Attract worldwide attention to doctoral programmes offered.
  • Advertise post-doctoral positions internationally.

Why is The Graduate Junction different?
Since launching The Graduate Junction in May 2008, we have become aware of a number of other websites offering listing services like these to academic institutions at significantly high rates. These high charges create a barrier to entry and prevent these services from providing comprehensive coverage.

Many of our colleagues at the end of their current research projects complain about the number of websites advertising studentships or jobs. They have told us they are frustrated because different websites advertise different opportunities, requiring them to register their details multiple times and remember where different listings were found. Many of these websites are also limited because they are country specific. With increasing international mobility, there may be opportunities of interest to the researcher in a number of other countries which should be available to consider when making career decisions.

The Graduate Junction recognises the vital importance of full information when making important decisions. Whilst our main focus is to provide researchers with networking opportunities, we recognise that in order to develop and maintain this global platform to the highest possible standard, The Graduate Junction will require finances. Unlike similar websites which are profit-driven, The Graduate Junction has been designed by graduate researchers with the intention of benefitting their community. Therefore we will be providing these listing opportunities for only a nominal administration fee, further subsidised for academic institutions.

Why is The Graduate Junction’s listings fee so low?
We believe the best way to provide full information to the research community is to keep the listing fee as low as possible. Our fees are designed to cover the costs of maintaining and developing The Graduate Junction only.

Who sees the listings?
Launched in May 2008, The Graduate Junction received over 40,000 unique visitors during its pilot stage alone and attracted close to 7000 members across 60 countries. With an expanded Team, re-developed site and more changes expected soon, our vision is to bring together Masters, Doctoral and Postdoctoral researchers across the globe. These listing opportunities have only just been made available (11th August 2008) and updated statistics will be made available soon.

By emphasising ‘Research Keywords’, The Graduate Junction allows researchers to search and find information most relevant their research interests using a familiar method they encounter during their own research process. Therefore those to whom the listings are most relevant and most likely to interest are most likely to see it. Researchers also have the options to keep a record and track the listings they are interested in from within their own research profile page. For academic events, in particular, this will allow researchers browsing research profiles of interest to them to see which event listings others are interested in.

How do I list with The Graduate Junction?
Upon registering for a listing account you will be given the option to upload graduate degree positions, conference and career listings. Each listing may contain as much or as little information as you want to about your event or programme within the specified fields. We recommend listings as many details as possible. Also we have enabled google maps- which not only returns the location of search results but is displayed on the listing.

How is the administration fee paid?
The administration fee will be automatically calculated based on the number of days from the start date and expiry date of the listing which you provide. You will be able to add as many listings as you want in one session and pay in for them all in one transaction. For security reasons The Graduate Junction utilises PayPal to handle these transactions. For this privilege, PayPal charges us a 20 pence (sterling) + 3% per transaction but we have included this in our listing fee in order to keep fees simple for you. If paying by PayPal you will be emailed a receipt.

If you choose to pay by invoice instead of PayPal you will be emailed an invoice to the account specified during registration. To learn more about the payment process please read our listing terms and conditions.

Can I edit the details of my listings?
Yes, of course. You can log into your account at any time and change the content of the listing, provided the listing refers to the same course/conference/career which was originally uploaded.
